Before and after pictures of a rain garden designed and installed in 2007. We captured the rainwater that collected and pooled between the client's and neighbor's homes leading to foundation problems.
We collected the rainwater from several sources by connecting the client's gutter downspouts to closed pipes, the neighbors gutter rainwater was collectd in drains that then connected to the client's downspout drains all leading to the rain garden discharge pipes that ends with a plumbing fixture called a pop-up. Water is directed away from the side yard to the front rain garden in a 4 inch closed pipe. The rain garden was dug 2.5 feet, and back filled with a mix of native black gumbo clay soil, compost and expanded shale. The finished depth is 10 inches deep. For large rain events there is an overflow drain.
The rain garden plant list: rain lilies, La. iris, Texas star hibiscus, perilla, inland sea oats and autumn obediant plant.
